Publisher's full burgundy leather, spines in eight compartments separated by raised bands, gilt lettering on green labels in two compartments, gilt tooling in four compartments, and gilt borders in the remainder, gilt borders, foliate tooling and Jefferson's facsimile signature, gilt, on covers, all edges gilt, Moire silk endpapers, silk ribbon marker bound-in. Generously illustrated with B&W portraits, photographs, and maps. The eight volumes are: (1) Jefferson the Virginian; (2) Jefferson and the Rights of Man; (3) Jefferson and the Ordeal of Liberty; (4) Jefferson the President - First Term, 1801-1805; (5) Jefferson the President - Second Term, 1805-1809; (6) The Sage of Monticello; (7) Writings - Autobigraphy, A Summary View of the Rights of British America, Notes on the State of Virginia, Public Papers, Address, Messages, and Replies, Miscellany; and (8) Writings - Letters. "A (large fold-out) Map of the country between Albemarle Sound and Lake Erie, comprehending the whole of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, with Parts of several other of the United States of America" engraved for the Notes on Virginia, is laid-in. . All of the volumes are in perfect, pristine condition, except that each volume has a former owner's name neatly stamped on either the title or half-title page, otherwise as new, tight, unread, and clean.
