London: Longman, Brown, Green & Longmans, 1846. Francis Jeffrey, Lord Jeffrey (1773-1850), was a Scottish literary critic, writer, and judge and long-time editor of the Edinburgh Review. Three volumes bound in contemporary diced calf, the backs with red morocco labels and intricately tooled in gilt, marbled end papers and edges. Provenance: Sir Joseph Henry Hawley (circular Leybourne Grange armorial bookplates). Near Fine, light soiling and minor rubbing at corners. Bookseller's descriptive label front paste down Vol. I. A quite pleasing set with important provenance of the rather more uncommon Second Edition.
