INSCRIBED (at Christmas 1943 on board the H.M.S. Guillemot to "Leonard" by "Michael"). Five-page holograph letter (on three sheets of note-sized paper) to "L" laid in. The recipient was Leonard M. Thompson, the prominent Yale professor who wrote widely on Southern Africa. Thwaites was an Australian Poet and an Intelligence Officer.
