Hardcover bound in blue cloth with cover designs in darker blue and with cover titles in silver. The binding is rather worn and soiled from handling with smudge marks on the covers. The spine is toned. Inner hinges secure, and the text block is sound. An early owner's inscription on the front flyleaf reads, "Leila M. Carton (or Caston?) / Christmas 1897." Some of the pages of text also show some stains and smudges from handling. The leaf for pages 119-120 has a long diagonal tear running down the middle of the page, almost to the bottom. Appears complete with four full-page drawings, including the frontis.
