About This Item

Antwerpiae: Sumptibus Societatis. 5 volumes in 4. Title continues: "& in V. tomos distributa: ad manuscriptos codices quamplurimos collata, & innumeris in locis emendata, quaedam etiam nunc primum edita." Fair condition. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Full leather with five raised bands and six gilt-tooled compartments. Du Pin's centennial Latin texts are more numerous than in Richer (1606), supplemented with notes absent in Glorieux, and arranged to emphasize Gallican aspects of Gerson's writings in opposition to Papal supremacy. Additional texts by Paris doctor Pierre d'Ailly. Copper-plates signed "B. Picart" / "G. v. Gouwen": large portrait-frontispiece (T1), title-page vignettes, head and tail pieces in all, marbled endpapers, red edges. Indices in T1 and T4. Exterior condition: mild general scuffing, some corners worn to boards, four gilt-tooled compartments lacking from T1, others mildly chipped. Interior: Firm text-blocks (minor joint repairs to T1), front and rear hinges tender, minimal foxing, several heavy toned pages remain legible. Jesuit rubber stamps and markings. Mild exterior ex-library treatment. Extra international postage required. Reception of medieval theology in the early modern period. . Fair. Leather Bound. 1706.
