About This Item

British Museum, 1970 8vo (22 cm), 32 pp, 18 plates. Publisher's cloth and dust jacket (minor shelf-wear, bookseller's ticket and ownership entry in pencil verso of half-title). Over five hundred years ago Johann Gutenberg of Mainz invented printing and began to produce books using movable types. Victor Scholderer's account of the inventor of printing shows how the printed book did not have an easy birth.
