About This Item

Munich, 1810. 6.5" x 4.5. Single leaf illustrated bookplate with some toning and light soiling, and blue ink manuscript on lower portion that states the provenance being from the collection of Erwin Faber; overall very good and an interesting association. Voltz, Johann Michael. 6.5" x 4.5" One of Volt's most iconic prints from the collection of German stage actor Erwin Faber. Johann Michael Voltz (b. 1784 - d.1858) was an engraver in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany whose political cartoons were syndicated and thoroughly reproduced, especially this particular image of Napoleon. This plate, as stated in blue ink manuscript beneath the image in an unknown hand, "Pulled" 1-23-28 from contemporary plate in possession of E.F. Faber."

Erwin F. Faber (b.1891 - d.1989) was a German stage actor based in Munich. He was chosen by Bertolt Brecht to be the lead in three of his plays, and was the lead in Brecht's short film, Mysterien eines Friseursalons (Mysteries of a Barber Shop).
