About This Item
Boston: The Pilot, 1878. Very good overall. Note signed in full by the editor of one of the leading Irish American newspapers of the day, The Pilot, John Boyle O'Reilly, famed Fenian transported to Western Australia in his youth, from Ireland.
The note, on letterhead (The Pilot Editorial Rooms) addressed to a Miss Bates, sets a date for a December 12 meeting and asks for further information on a piece, for readership and suggestions on what to look for.
O'Reilly was transported as a convict to Western Australia for his role in the Fenian conspiracy, escaped and became a noted Boston newspaper editor and poet. Regarded as Western Australia's first poet.
5 1/2 x 9 1/4". Period folds flattened. Short closed tear, small chip bottom edge not affecting text.
