First Edition (preface also dated 1885) of this significant work. -- Dedication page: To His Grace, Francis Charles Hastings Russell, ninth duke of Bedford, who erected a monument to Bunyan in Bedford. -- Includes illustrations by Edward Wymper, frontispiece portrait, maps, facsimile of Bunyan's will. -- Lovely hardcover, 3/4 leather, spine with raised bands, gilt decoration and black label, and with marbled edges, 498 pages. Condition: very good (front [blank?] page missing; cover is a little scuffed, tiny bit of foxing outer pages, owner name, otherwise bright, clean and sharp). -- Collated and complete (but for one blank page).
