The Fables are illustrated with 68 wood engravings from drawings by William Harvey. Printed on water-marked rag paper with deckled edges. Text pages are crisp and white. Top edge gilt. A clean, totally unmarked and tightly bound copy. Bound in olive-green cloth with elaborate gilt decoration and lettering on front and spine. Cover has faint edge rub, corners lightly bumped, otherwise fine. In original dust jacket. Jacket is darkened along spine and has small patches of light discoloration that are barely visible. Jacket is intact, no chips or tears and is in clear archival protector. Binding and hinges are tight, straight and intact. Includes 40-page "Life of John Gay", the Fables (each illustrated), Appendix and Chronological list of various editions of Gay's fables. 6 x 9". 313 pages plus illustration plates..
