[ALS ] John Quincy Adams. John Quincy Adams (1767-1848) Former U.S. President (1825-1829). (3) p. letter to Joseph Blunt, editor of the American Annual Register from Adams on the Russo-Japanese War. Though written anonymously for his friend, the article (pages 277-316) had some initial errors in the proof sheets which Adams corrected. We have noted in comparing the notes in this letter there are forty-five corrections of which at least 30 were corrected. The careful reader might well call this a lesson in careful proofreading by JQA but less care by the printers. The letter is dated March 29, 1830, Washington. We have identified its authorship with the issue by the Massachusetts Historical Society, John Quincy Adams Dairy; an Electronic Archive. A recent book by James Traub also notes that he had written this article on the Russo-Turkish War. He also wrote a ten line note in reference to Mr. [Robin] Walsh's story of the war between Russia and Turkey which Adams states was not written by him. A fine letter signed by Adams. Letter measures approx. 9 ¾" x 8"
