About This Item

Boston: Printed for the Subscribers, 1915. Limited edition of 600 copies on French hand-made paper for subscribers and 600 copies for general distribution; 6" x 9"; pp. [4], iii-xix, [3], 1-429, [3]; original brown cloth over boards; gilt title to spine; few small rubbed spots to head and tail of spine and slight wear to edges; very minor foxing to fore-edge, else clean; very good to near fine condition. Both copies signed and inscribed by Rowland and Helen Hazard. Remarkable family association copies of the Hazards of Rhode Island. The first one is inscribed and signed by Rowland and Helen Hazard and the inscription reads: "To Rowland Gibson Hazard | on the occasion of his | Graduation of St. Paul's | with much love from | his mother and father | Helen H C Hazard | Rowland Hazard | June 12th 1936." The second copy's inscription is as follows: "To Peter Hamilton Hazard | June 27th 1939. | With dearest love | from H H C H." Sadly, both sons - Captain Rowland G. and Peter Hamilton - were killed in the line of duty during WWII several years after they received the books from their parents.
