London: Faber & Faber, 1971. pp. 512; illustrated throughout with colour and black and white plates.Loosely inserted Errata and offprint from Brunonia 'Nomenclatural History of Hibbertia grossulariifolia by William T. Stearn (This copy from Stearn's library, though not signed - see below). Obituary from the Times 8 October 1981 tipped onto front endpaper. Dust jacket very good with a little general wear and rubbing to edges, a couple of nicks repaired with archival tape to the underside, now protected in a clear removable archival sleeve. Hardback binding very good, lower corner lightly bumped, nick to cloth at base of spine. Contents clean and tight, unmarked, no inscriptions. A very good copy. [Provenance: from the library of Prof. William Stearn, "doyen of British botanists" who wrote c. 500 papers and books, including the classic "Botanical Latin". He was an authority on Linnaeus and an expert on botanical illustration.] . First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 4to.

The diary the naturalist kept on his first voyage to Newfondland and Labador in the Niger, which preceded his trip with Captain Cook on the Endeavour. Includes his scientific manuscripts and a detailed account of his collections. Profusely illustrated with 12 colour plates and many in b/w , plus drawings and charts, including fold-outs. Maroon cloth boards with gilt lettering in black panel to spine. Internally the front hinge is a little loose but not broken and the a small piece of the top corner of the half-title page has been clipped and there is a little damage to a short lenght of the page fore-edge. o/w contents are tight and clean. V.G. in like d/w with a little edgewear and small repaired tear to top of spine, and is in removable clear protective wrap. This is a very heavy book and owing to the weight, extra shipping will be incurred. Please ask for details..
