Part of "Gold Series," which had brief run in 1897; 285 p., clean and unmarked anywhere on strong paper mildly age-toned--more so on end pages and pastedowns; 16mo; seven lovely engravings including frontis. portrait of the French empress Josephine; gutters cracked but binding firm and volume square; gilt lettering and exquisite floral boards in gilt and pastel design are faded with faint stains--spine quite sunned; rubbing at corners and at crown and foot of spine. Would benefit from skilfull repair.

This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of a reprinted edition issued as part of "The Makers of History" series. Tan decorative cloth binding with a sword and wreath motif on the front cover, filled in brown and black. Clean text; 328 pages, very fresh and bright. A bit of foxing to the fore-edge; the spine slightly darkened and some of the lettering rubbed; else close to a Fine copy Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Reprint.. Decorative Cloth.
