About This Item
NP: Au Mont de Vénus, 1947. First edition. Hardcover. g- to vg. Limited Edition 276/500. 13 loosely folded signatures with 8 pages each in maroon pebbled cloth portfolio housed in matching slipcase. Illustrated title pages. 22 of 24 extraordinary b/w heliogravures with text in illustrated border printed on uncut BFK Rives paper. It's the story of 15 year old Jacques, blond handsome and strong, a sexual object for ladies as well as gentlemen, one on one and in groups. The illustrator was undoubtedly Antonin Soungouroff who skillfully and realistically played these adventures to the gallery. A true book of lust and rare homo and heteroerotical work. It was condemned by the French Tribunal after publication and again in 1953. Soungouroff, a Russian immigrant, who settled in the South of France in the 1930s was friends with artists like Jean Cocteau, Christian Bérard and Roger Peyrefitte. Text in French. Missing one signature with two heliogravures and text. Slipcase rubbed with some tears and creasing. Portfolio rubbed with cracks along spine. Interior blotched from page turning and sporadic minor staining. Slipcase and portfolio in good-, interior in good+ to very good condition.
