Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1891. FIRST EDITION. 220 x 146 mm. (8 3/4 x 5 3/4"). Two volumes..
Pretty 19th century blue half morocco over marbled pasted boards, bound by Zaehnsdorf for John Wannamaker (stamp-signed on front free endpaper) raised bands, spine gilt in compartments with central gilt thistle motifs. With frontispiece portraits, title vignettes, and one folding map. Pastedowns with the bookplates of Lucy Askew Jackson. A breath of wear to edges and along joints, one edge slightly bumped, boards lightly scuffed and just a touch toned in one area, but still a very attractive set, the contents clean and fresh throughout.
This is an attractively bound set of Scott's personal journals, reproduced for the first time in their entirety from the original manuscript at Abbotsford. An essential resource for anyone interested in the life and works of the author..
