NEAR FINE copy of the 33rd Volume. A beautifully preserved hardcover: clean, totally unmarked, and tightly bound in binding of green marbled paper over boards with dark green leatherette spine. The title is gilt-stamped on spine. Pages are crisp and fine, there is no wear to the cover. The binding and hinges on this thick book are sturdy and intact. Boards and spine are straight. Many of the papers and reports are illustrated with drawings, diagrams and charts in text. The Society of Glass Technology was founded at the University of Sheffield in 1916. This volume of their journal was edited by W.E.S. Turner. Twenty five papers are presented; topics ranging from The Oxidation of Silicon-Carbide Refractory Materials; Aspects of Flow Properties of Very High Viscosity; The Economics of Cooling Glass Tanks by Air; The Production of Oxygen; The Flow of Glass; The Development of Some Very Soft Glasses; The Solubility of Fluorides in Glass; The Curious Word "Lehr". The News and Reviews section contains an interesting illustrated article on Stourbridge Cameo Glass, an article on The 200-Inch Reflecting Telescope at Mount Palomar, and a short piece on the Orrefors Jubilee Exhibition (1948) with photographs of several of the pieces displayed. Annual Indexes (Nams and Subject Matter) are included. 5-1/4 x 8-1/2" ; 1048 text pages plus several pages of black and white photographs. . Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket.
