An Everyman's Library edition, offering letters by Ireland's Jonathan Swift between 1710 and 1713 to his friend Esther Johnson, whom Swift referred to as "Stella." The correspondence occurred during Dean Swift's time in England on political business. Includes Sir Walter Scott's "Swift, Stella and Vanessa" essay. Editing and introduction by J. K. Moorhead. Number 757 in Everyman's Library "Biography" series, edited by Ernest Rhys. --- In flatback binding style 1, full grey cloth-covered boards with elaborate Reginald Knowles-designed gilt spine titling & decorations, blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette to front cover and fancy Knowles woodcut art at title page, endpapers & frontis. A likely first edition [c.1924], but undated. Lacks a dust jacket. --- A rather worn copy, with tears to cloth at darkened spine and prior owner's signature. Though somewhat damaged, the book remains relatively tightly-bound and complete.; xxx, 445 pages .
