About This Item

First Edition of Famous World War I play with scarce original dust jacket, completely intact!

Journey's End by R.C. Sherriff Hardcover First Edition - First Printing Brentano's 1929. Fine- in Near Fine++ Dust Jacket. $2.00 cover price present, no indication of later printings on copyright page indicating a first printing. Possibly the best copy available with an outstanding original dust jacket. Book itself is clean, boards clean, pages nice, slight shelf-wear and aging, to be expected. Dust Jacket is complete, NO Major tears and NO major chips, just slight fraying to top and bottom of the spine, and slight nicking to corners, and a tiny circular rubbing to the front bottom edge, else just about as nice as you could ask for! (Most buyers in the 1920's and 1930's threw away the dust jacket off of books, making most dust jackets produced prior to World War II very scarce.) Simultaneously released in the UK by Gollancz the same year.

NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers.

ALSO: The picture is the actual item for sale. (The picture is NOT a stock photo.)

Synopsis

Set in the First World War, Journey's End concerns a group of British officers on the front line and opens in a dugout in the trenches in France. Raleigh, a new eighteen-year-old officer fresh out of English public school, joins the besieged company of his friend and cricketing hero Stanhope, and finds him dramatically changed...Laurence Olivier starred as Stanhope in the first performance of Journey's End in 1928; the play was an instant stage success and remains a remarkable anti-war classic.
