New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1973 First Edition, First Printing of the Farrar, Strauss trade edition. Inscribed by Maurice Senak, the illustrator, on the half title page of the first volume: "For Jane, Maurice Sendak, January '74". Two volume set in cardboard slipcase. Each of the dust jackets is clean with some rubbing and a few small tears, less than 1/2 inch long at the head and foot of the spine panels, with $12.95 price intact on flaps. Cover boards are unmarked with little wear. Interior pages are clean and bright. Orange board slipcase has some wear and scuffing, but it is fully intact, with illulstrated print pasted to front panel Translated by Lore Segal with four tales translated by Randall Jarrell. (Hanrahan A82).
