Text block pulled away from fragile silk tie; some wear to wrappers; previous owner name "W. B. Elkin, Honolulu, HI Dec 25 '01) with minor ink notations regarding Kaahumanu's life; still a very good copy. Ka ahumanu (1768 - 1832) ("the feathered mantle") was queen consort and acted as regent of the Kingdom of Hawai i as Kuhina Nui. She was the favorite wife of King Kamehameha I and also the most politically powerful, and continued to wield considerable power as co-ruler in the kingdom during reigns of his first two successors. - wiki. First published in 1893, here an early biography of this noted queen. The text for the first part (pg. 3-22) has been adapted from "the histories of Jarves, Bingham, Steward, and Dibble." The second part (pg. 23 to the end) is taken from 'Honolulu: Sketches of Life...in the Hawaiian Islands', by Laura Fish Judd. (Hawaiian National Bibliography 4417).
