Comprising 'A Kentucky Cardinal' and its sequel, 'Aftermath'. 'A Kentucky Cardinal' was the author's third novel, and was first published in 1894, thus commencing the series. James Lane Allen (1849-1925) was an American novelist best known for his depictions of the American state of Kentucky; he has been described as Kentucky's first important novelist.Illustrated throughout by Hugh Thomson (1860-1920), an Irish illustrator renowned for his pen and ink illustrations for the likes of J. M. Barrie, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen.With the ownership inscription of Eleanor Norah Methuen (nee Hennessey), Lady Methuen, wife of the fourth Baron Methuen and artist (1886-1958).Bound in the beautiful original decorative cloth, with gilt detail to the cover and spines. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart; spine is just a little faded. Ownership inscription in pencil to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
