Reviews

On Nov 10 2020, a reader said:
The Kidnapping of Collie Younger was published earlier as one of the stories in a Walter J Black hardcover titled, The Wolf Tracker, a rare title to be found. At the time it was the first time the story had ever been printed. It is typical of the type of story Zane Grey wrote during the latter period of his writing career--not his best work by any means--yet still better than anything being printed today. It is the story of a group of young people who are out on a lark--a picnic to be exact--and they encounter some "rough" characters--bank robbers on the run--and things get quite complicated. Outlaws of Palouse first saw the light of day as "The Horse Thief" in Country Gentleman magazine in 1934, and in a paperback collection by Pocket Books called, Amber's Mirage. This was one of the last of the magazine serials that Zane Grey had published due to the Great Depression as magazines could no longer afford his prices, even though he agreed to take a lot less money than he had been being paid. That in no way lessons the greatness of the work,as it is a wonderful story set in the "Northwest" the region of Washington/Oregon. I recommend this book highly. It has all one would expect to find when it comes to the master story teller of the west, Zane Grey.
