London: British and Foreign Bible Society. Good with no dust jacket. 1887. First Edition. Hardcover. The second edition of the complete Maori bible. The first complete Maori bible was published in 1868 (this was preceded by editions of the New Testament and various compilations of chapters from the old testament). This second edition has a printed date on the title page of 1887. This date was when printing began, but due to printing delays the actual publication date was 1889 (see BIM 1241). 855, [1], 270, 4, [2] pages. Separate title page for the new testament, also with printed date of 1887. Full leather binding. Blind tooled pattern to boards.Page dimensions: 212 x 129mm. All page edges gilt. Owner's rubber name stamp: "F M Hill 3 Risk Rd Remuera Akd". Rebacked with most of original spine laid down. Boards rubbed. Heavy rubbing and wear to edges and corners of boards. Most leather rubbed away along top edges of boards, 1" loss of leather along edges of lower corners of boards. Endpapers replaced. A couple of 1/2" tears to margins of title leaf.
