Thomas Smith, a 16th-century English diplomat, was the Secretary of State under King Edward VI of England. He also served under Elizabeth I, and was one of her most trusted Protestant advisors. One of his most important books was 'De Republica Anglorum' – a book in which Smith discusses the government of England as well as policies and politics under Queen Elizabeth. Much attention is paid to the balance of Catholic vs Protestant England.
