Scheuchzer, 1672-1733, Swiss scholar, physician, chair of physics, professor in mathematics, credited for being one of the fathers of paleontology, passed away two years prior to the publication of the final volume, a publication process of overall eleven years. The sketches are the work of the artist Johann Melchior Füssli, numerous engravers of the time took part.
