Virago, London, 1986. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/Good. Black coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the backstrip. Black-and-white photograph of author to the rear dustwrapper panel. A novel based around a diary written by Lucienne Crozier being 1847  her impressions of her new life in Paris. But, it wasn't the comfortable writings of a newly married woman detailing her domestic and social engagements  but, a detailing of a disintegration of a dull arranged marriage, an introduction to the art and political scene of Paris, her affairs with an artist and revolutionary and her radicalisation to socialism and feminism prior to the 1848 revolution. After the revolution, she fled Paris to Algiers with her revolutionary lover and then drops out of sight. Her diary is found 120 years later and is picked up by a an American intellectual with a pre-determined view of Lucienne's legacy, and upon her death rediscovered by a refugee from the Berkely riots of 1968. Softening to the backstrip edges with a little bumping of the book corners. There is reverse cocking of the spine and quite noticeable browning of the textblock edges and pages. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges and rubbing to the dustwrapper panels and edges. Some marks to the verso of the dustwrapper. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [4], 284 pages..
