Pages 379 - 528 for the subsequent issues are not present. Frontis, title page, preface, table of contents and embellishments are missing (pp.1 -8), as is the plate of The Old Billop House on p.106. (P. 105 was blank, being the verso of plate.) Profusely illustrated with many full page engravings - approximately 85 are present among the nine issues. Volume with cover illustration lightly rubbed, wear to spine ends, spine tilt, small 1/2" piece missing at bottom of one leaf. Page 15 has a few lines taken from a letter written in French - pertaining to the story - neatly translated into English underneath. First published in Russia in 1899 and later translated by William E. Smith, this was the last novel written by Tolstoy.
