First edition. Marbled boards, 3/4 sheep, black spine title stamped gilt, 14 ruled gilt bands. Royal 8vo. pp. [ii], vi, [4], 862. VG. Rubbing to binding, light overall toning only flaws. Joints and hinges sound. Complete text with pp. 23/4 loose but inserted. Wife of Henry Peterson 1818-91, owner of Saturday Evening Post from 1848-73 and its editor 1846-74. Edited by his wife, Sarah Webb, his firm published Lady's Friend from 1864-74..
