About This Item

London: J.M Dent & Sons. Very Good/Very Good. 1946. First Edition. Dust jacket unclupped, slight wear to edges. Red cloth boards with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership marks. 95 pages clean and tight. The action of this dramatic narrative poem is laid in the Fontainebleau district of France during the German occupation, and the story concerns a French family who are torn between fear of the invader and love of' their cou!ltry. The plot is focused on one of the daughters, who takes her life in her hands to follow the judgment of her heart. Beneath the outward events the poem is a restatement of the eternal values of love and faith and sacrifices. .
