Paris: Ancienne Maison Quantin Librairies-Imprimeries Reunies No date, circa 1900. 4to, 350 pp., 300 illustrations in black and white, 12 plates in color. Half red rmorocco, marbled boards and endpapers, original wrappers with cover by Willette bound in. Laid in is a 5 x 7 steel engraving entiled "La Boussole Politique," comprised of caricatures by Depose of France's rulers from Louis XVI to Napoleon 3rd. The spine is somewhat rubbed but the joints are sound, internally clean and tight, armorial bookplate on flyleaf. Extra postage will be required for this heavy volume outside the U.S.. Very Good.

Top edge gilt. , Notes: Arsène Alexandre (1859 – 1937) was a French art critic. He was a contributor to L'Événement, Le Paris and L'Éclair and in 1894 was one of the founders of the satirical journal Le Rire, becoming its artistic director. Alexandre and Félix Fénéon were the first to use the term 'pointillism', in 1886, and Alexandre alone coined the term 'the Rouen School', in 1902 in a catalogue to an exhibition of the work of Joseph Delattre at the galerie Durand-Ruel à Paris.
