The Last Journals of David Livingstone In Central Africa, From Eighteen Hundred and Sixty-Five to His Death, Continued by a Narrative of His Last Moments and Sufferings Obtained from his Faithful Servants Chuma and Susi. by Horace Waller [Editor] First American Edition 1875. 21 full page Engravings, 25 inset illustrations.

From the Introduction: "In the midst of the universal sorrow caused by the intelligence that Dr. Livingstone had lost is life at the farthest point to which he had penetrated in his search for the true sources of the Nile, a faint hope was indulged that some of his journals might survive the disaster: this hope, I rejoice to say, has been realized beyond the most sanguine expectations."

Within the 541 pages of text with its full page and inset illustrations lies the fascinating story of his exploration: elephants, warring natives, illness, earthquakes, birds flowers and fruits, and individual friends are all detailed for a clearer understanding of the Central Africa of the time.
Condition: This original 1875 first American edition hard cover is a real beauty, complete with the two ORIGINAL color maps! Rebound with the cover and spine pieces re-applied so it looks like the original. The large 60" x 64"map is in very good shape in pocket in the back.
