Includes a 30-page publisher's catalog (erratically paginated) at the rear. Hardcover bound in full leather. The binding shows some old wear and cover stains but is quite sound. Sturdy hinges. Early owner's light pencil inscription on the front flyleaf and a later doctor's inscription on the front pastedown. The text block is sound, and the text is foxed, sometimes quite heavily. Still, a sturdy copy of a scarce work and in the original binding. From a Mocksville (Davie County), North Carolina 19th century doctor's collection.

The binding is quite rubbed and worn. The front board has damping. Rear board has smudges and scuffs. Some pages are damped have smudging. Text is foxed. No copyright date, but the book was published in 1903. An early owner's inscription on front flyleaf reads, "To Thomas (?) from Katherine Kelby. / Feb. 19, 1905." We have found a listing of this book for sale in the December, 1903 advertisements of "The Theosophical Forum." The advertisement in that journal of this book states, "The dawn of a new day in the intellectual and spiritual development of the child. These stories, which embody the higher laws of being, are so simply told that the youthful mind can easily comprehend them. Between each story is an exquisite 'Moonlight Lullaby.'" The binding is a white hardcover made to look like vellum (but is likely treated paper-covered boards) and has cover designs and lettering embossed in gilt. All edges red. Some of the thick pages are a bit wavy about the edges. The binding is soiled and bumped but is sound. There is some cracking to the front and rear hinges near the headcap. The front cover is stamped "ROMA" There is not date in the volume, but the images appear to be late 19th century. Image #46 is dated (printed along with the image in the margin) 1873. Although the front cover states "Roma", the images appear to be mostly from Pisa, Naples and Pompeii and contains some scenery as well as a number of images of art from museums. Hardcover bound in 3/4 black morocco with red marbled paper-covered boards. Raised bands on the spine. Top edge gilt. The binding shows light to moderate rubbing and wear with some scuffing on some of the bands and a bit of rubbing on the hinges in spots. Corners a little bumped. Marbled endpapers. The text is a little toned but is clean. The plates are toned but are quite sound. Stated Second Edition on the title page. No copyright date, but the consensus seems to be that the second edition was published in 1842.
