John Bunyan, 4. Welsley and His Times, 5. Florence and the Florentines, 6. The Huguenots. A Pilgrimage to Two American Shrines. Sermons: 1. Kindness to the Poor (Preached Before the Members of St. George's Society, in the Metropolitan Church, Toronto. 2. The Salvation of Israel, 3. The Lord's Supper, 4. The Transfiguration of Christ. 378 pp. Book printed by Hunter, Rose & Co., Printers, Electrotypers and Bookbinders, Toronto. Author came to Canada in 1868. After an initial enquiry by Egerton Ryerson, he was appointed President of The Conference of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canada. He served in that capacity for 5 terms from 1868 to 1872. He had an interest in building new Wesleyan churches in the revived Gothic style of which the greatest achitectural monument is the Metropolitan Methodist Church in Toronto. (now Metropolitan United Church) The original church was mostly destroyed by a fire in 1928. The bell tower, however was saved. That church, in gilt now graces the front cover of this book. Book has bevelled edges, black and gilt decorations on spine and front panel, top edge gilt, dark green ep's. Spine edges are scuffed and worn, book has scuffed corners and a beautiful gift inscription in black ink ffep that is dated " New Year's Day, Ottawa, Ont., 1876. SIGNATURE[faux ?] of author, in black ink on frontispiece. Bookseller's inventory # 191305.
