Jean Paget, a young Englishwoman imprisoned by the Japanese in Malaya (now Malaysia) during the Second World War, falls in love with a fellow prisoner, and after liberation emigrates to Australia to be with him, where she attempts, by investing her substantial financial inheritance, to generate prosperity in a small outback community-to turn it into "a town like Alice" ( i.e. Alice Springs). N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.
