Letter from Robert Smith, secretary of the Navy, correcting errors made in the report originally sent to Thomas Blount regarding the attack & surrender of the USS Chesapeake to the British HMS Leopard. The Chesapeake-Leopard Affair was a humiliating defeat for the unprepared Americans, resulting in the suspension of James Barron's command, as well as Jefferson's unpopular Embargo Act of 1807, which was signed into law a month after this report.
