Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1981. First US Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good +. Full number line down to 1. In nice black cloth with gilt. Gift inscription to top verso of ffep. Jacket is price-clipped with three short tears each to top and bottom edge of jacket and a small chip to bottom as well. A couple punctures as well to spine and rear flap crease.

The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien is a selection of J. R. R. Tolkien's letters published in 1981, edited by Tolkien's biographer Humphrey Carpenter assisted by Christopher Tolkien. The selection contains 354 letters, dating between October 1914, when Tolkien was an undergraduate at Oxford, and August 29, 1973, four days before his death.
