Extra cr.8vo format, mainly in quarter sheets (the first three gatherings, and and the final gathering, however, being half-sheets); five blanks before half-title in volume one, four at end, the outermost serving as end-papers; limitation leaf following title leaf in volume one; leaf bearing dated woodcut device of The Ashley Library followed by four blanks at end in each volume; pp.[10 (including end-papers)]+[x]+97+[ii (blank)]+[i]+[9 (including en-papers)]; bevelled navy-blue fine buckram lettered and with short rule, gilt, on spine; a.e. uncut. Faint scratch to front cover and very slight rubbing to gilt at head of spine; internally a fine copy. The total edition consisted of only thirty copies. Eighteen letters, written between 20th December, 1810 and 28th April, 1811. Printed on fine hand-made paper watermarked ‘J. Whatman 1895’. Wise, ‘Ashley Library’, V., p.103-4, not mentioning the blanks. The only volume printed, the project having been abandoned after the announcement of the Complete Correspondence edited by Roger Ingpen in the same year. It is possible that no all copies were bound up, as it it a good deal scarcer in our experience than other titles in the series, despite the limitation being the same.
