[i-viii]. 1391pp. first compiled by John Ecton as Liber Valorum in 1786 completely plagerised without alteration by the scoundrel John Bacon and republished as Liber Regis. as such the sixth edition of the original. with the bookplate of Cresswell Naesmyth of Posso dated 1964 [another slightly dubious character]. boards detached but binding sound otherwise a good copy.

FIRST EDITION, 4to., pp.viii,1391; a good copy in contemporary tan calf, morocco label; hinges cracked but sides held on cords; ex libris Hugh Cecil Earl of Lonsdale. Bacon was justly criticised for failing to acknowledge his debt to John Ecton on whose Thesaurus of 1711 this work is based.

London: John Nichols; J Fand C Rivington, 1786. First edition. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 11" by 9". None. The first edition of John Bacon's editorial of Ecton's Thesaurus. This work is an account of the valuations of all ecclesiastical benefices who paid the first fruits and tenths annates. The work was originally issued in 1711 and was compiled by John Ecton. Seven editions of the work appeared between 1723 and 1796 under the title 'Liber Valorum et Decimarum'. Bacon changed the name of this work to 'Liber Regis' before making his own additions. This work has been published without any mention of Ecton. Ecton's preface remains in-tact with no revision on the part of Bacon. The Gentleman's Magazine for 1786 and 1787 discussed this plagiarism in both issues. Ecton was employed in the first-fruits department of the office of Queen Anne's Bounty where he was the receiver of the tenths of the clergy.
