About This Item

1558 Boccaccio De Mulieribus Claris Famous Women Mythology Italian Renaissance

"Human it is to have compassion on the unhappy"

― Giovanni Boccaccio

Giovanni Boccaccio was a 14th-century Italian poet and important humanist during the Renaissance. In 1361, Boccaccio began composing 'De Mulieribus Claris' – a collection of biographical sketches of historical and mythological women. · Isis, queen and goddess of Egypt

· Medusa, daughter of Phorcus

· Penelope, wife of Ulysses

· Sappho, woman of Lesbos

· Olympias, queen of Macedonia
