A band of young theives and con-artists, the Gentlemen Bastards, as they call themselves, steal from the rich and the nobility and in the city of Camorr. Trained, from childhood, in the various skills necessary for their trade, they enjoy their work - and hold more stolen gold than they know what to do with.
But someone else stalks the night, leaving a trail of blood. The mysterious "Grey King" threatens to upset the established order in the underworld of Camorr - the uneasy Secret Peace, maintained by the crime lord Barsavi.
