Philadelphia: Lea and Blanchard, 1841. Hardcover. Very Good. 403 pp. Engraved portrait frontispiece plus 38 (of 39) plates originally designed and etched in steel by "Phiz", redrawn by J. Yaeger form the originals. Modern quarter calf, red morocco spine labels, marbled boards. Early American edition. Lacking one plate, foxing throughout, diagonal creasing to last few pages, else very good.
Synopsis
Nicholas Nickleby is left responsible for his mother and sister when his father dies. The novel follows his attempt to succeed in supporting them, despite his uncle Ralph's antagonistic lack of belief in him. It is one of Dickens' early comic novels.
