London - The Nonesuch Press, 1927 Book. VERY GOOD INDEED. Hardcover. A limited edition by The Nonesuch Press of William Cobbett's works under the pseudonym Peter Porcupine. William Cobbett was a journalist, pamphleteer, and farmer, who wrote pro-British tracts in America under thename Peter Porcupine. A number of these works are collected here, arranged to form a sort of life story for the author up until his departure from America in 1800. The works included are: Life & adventures; The Scarecrow; Remarks of the Pamphlets; Talleyrand:A Spy; Farewell to America; A Court-martial; A Retrospect. Also included is a coloured frontispiece, showing 'Peter Porcupine's Enlistment'. It follows the cartoon by Gillray, and was coloured through stencils by the Curwen Press. This edition was limited to 1,800 copies, and is printed on Arches paper. This copy is number 1,062,Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Condition: In the original cloth with paper covered boards. Externally very smart with a little wear to the extremities and a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The text block is untrimmed and the foredge is a little dusty as a result. The free endpapers are a little foxed. Internally clean and bright, and firmly bound. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED.
