Two Volume Set 1804.Vol 1 (viii) 405;pp Vol 2 (v,[1] 446pp. With 17 wonderful engraved copper plates (including both frontispieces and shipwreck designs for the title pages.Handsome set in very attractive contemporary Quarter Brown Leather Bindings with red and black moroccan labels to the 2nd and 4th spine compartments plus further gilt designs in each of the other spine compartments.Bindings remain firm with NO hinge weakness,contents clean and there is a former small bookplate to the front pastedowns of each volume.The outer boards are marbled in mottled blue with all page edges marbled.There are a few surface scratch marks most noticeably to Volume 2.This is Stockdale's wonderful and celebrated illustrated edition the Second Edition after drawings made by Thomas Stothard.In Volume two there is an additional life of Daniel Defoe by Chalmers.A lovely clean tight set of this seminal work which would certainly add to any serious book collection and adorn the shelf they sat upon.
