Boards have been moderately rub worn, with noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed and spine ends are crushed, with small splits and chips. Large water marks to boards and spine.

Hardcover, volume 1 only of a two-volume set, Edition de Luxe series from the Grolier Society and limited to 1000 copies for England and America, of which this is number 114. Gray cloth boards show scuffing and soiling/toning is present. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. There is some light spotting and foxing present, although this is mainly limited to the end pages and pastedowns. Please note: this is volume 1 only.

Top edges gilt. Deckle fore edges. Black and white frontispieces with tissue guards. Black and white plates. Bindings tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Corners and spine ends mildly rubbed, with minor fraying at tips. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Pages clean and unmarked. Some page still uncut (unopened). Volume 2 has a two-inch light moisture stain at the bottom spine corner. Stain is visible inside on just the first few pages, and on the last twenty or so pages, in bottom corner at gutter. 369 + 358 pages. No dust jackets. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
