One quarto volume (11 1/16 x 8 7/8 inches; 282 x 226 mm). xvi, 527, [1, publisher's ads] pp. With engraved frontispiece portrait. With half-title. Also includes in the appendix: Helen Maria Williamsís íThe Morai, an ode.í Full modern mottled calf, boards ruled and stamped in blind. Spine stamped and lettered in gilt. Maroon calf spine label. Newer endpapers. A bit of light scratching to boards. Occasional very light pencil notes on margins, non-obtrusive. Pages 325 and 445 with small closed tears to margin, not affecting text. Some light foxing and toning to portrait, otherwise a near fine copy. An important record of Cook's voyages and life, "the work contains an admirable precis of the three voyages, with valuable information from the original sources. It introduces most of Samwell's Narative of Captain Cook's Death, and also gives accounts of the various tributes to Cook's memory,...it also includes the biographies of Green the astronomer, Ledyard, the American seaman, and Captain Clerke; as well as a notice of the various medals which were struck." The two endpapers are torn (upper 1/2 missing) , and the frontice is missing. On the other hand, the contents are very good +, with very little foxing. The spine shows a number "4", which I believe was an indication this was bound with the 3 volume set of the "Voyage to the Pacific Ocean". ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 527 pages .
