Near Fine book, one very tiny chip to spine, slight foxing to rear wrapper, dampstain to top corner of frontis, else fine in custom-made clamshell box. Adams Six-Guns 2440. Cowan p. 312, Graff 4736, Howes W635 "An exceedingly rare little book on one of the early outlaws of California" -- Adams. "The dispensation of justice in that day was not impeded by iniquitous technicality, nor disturbed by the false sentiment. This abandoned wretch was arrested Jan. 19, 1864, and hanged on March 18 of the same year" -- Cowan. Jenkins murdered 8 white men and 10 Indians, committed highway robberies, stole horses, etc. in numerous states across the nation.

Napa City: C.H. Allen and R.E. Wood, 1864. First Edition. Near Fine. First edition. 56 pp. Woodcut frontispiece and one illustrated plate. Original tan printed wraps. Tiny tear at foot of wrappers, and faint corner crease to outer corner of front wrap with tiny closed tear, else Fine. A very bright copy that looks a fraction of its age; truly excellent. A rare mid-19th century gallows confession printed in San Francisco. The sub-title is: Containing an account of the murder of eight white men and ten Indians; together with the particulars of highway robberies, the stealing of several horses, and numerous other crimes, committed in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska and California: as narrated by himself to Col. C. H. Allen, Sheriff of Napa County, while in jail under sentence of death for the murder of Patrick O'Brien. Phonographically Reported and Arranged for the Press by R.E. Wood.
