About This Item
New York: G. P. Putnam & Co., 1855. Full Leather. Very Good+/No Dust Jacket. 4to. Number 21 of an edition of 110 extra-illustrated sets created by the publisher. Complete in five volumes published form 1855 to 1859. Each volume is fully bound in tan Moroccan leather with gilt lettering and decoration on spine, and along the edges both inside and out. Raised spine bands create six compartments. All edges of text are gilded. Marbled end leaves. Proceeding the table of contents, there is a page listing the added illustrations in each volume, with a total number of added plates being 127. Several of the added illustrations show offsetting onto adjacent pages, and there are two small blue ink stains on the frontis portrait of George Washington in Vol. I. Other slight wear is seen. Each volume is housed in a slipcase that has been functional, though not particularly attractive. Due to the weight and size of this set, additional charges may apply for Priority and/or International shipping.
