A likely book club edition of this two volume set, which tells of the everyday lives of both Confederate and Union soldiers during the U.S. Civil War. Rather than discuss the major battles and big-picture strategies, these works describe the personal side of these soldiers' lives: from letters home, to food eaten, to marches, songs and other aspects of their lives. Each volume with a black & white frontis image of typical soldiers from either side. --- In rust cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling and wrapped in simple typographic dust jackets (either black or white). Volume share a black paper-covered slipcase with a paper label bearing both titles pasted to one panel. --- An about Near Fine copy: unmarked, clean and bright. Jackets in great shape (though Johnny's has a little age-toning) and wrapped in removable archival mylar protectors. Slipcase with light soiling & rubbing but remains structurally sound.
