About This Item
A W Bennett, London / Thomas Brady, York, 1862. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 556 pages plus appendix (complete). A benign copy of this biography of the prominent Quaker by his Quaker friend, Backhouse and Quaker publisher and author, Tylor. Backhouse was considerably energetic as a preacher. Tylor's son-in-law was George Cadbury, the chocolatier. The boards are sound. They are scuffed, worn, rubbed all about. They are sound and steady. The frontispage has the remains of a bookplate. The reverse-frontispage has a scratchy signature by a previous owner. The contents are placid and serious. They have evidence of contented use throughout with some occasional marks from handling and use. The pages are otherwise certain, clear, clean, conscientious, confident, convivial. fk.
